Hope you're having a great Monday.
Looks like my blog schedule is settling out like this...
Monday - Sunday Set List
Tuesday - Worship Confessional
Wednesday through Friday... Who knows? But, I'm going to try to make this regular :-)
But before the set list - a word about theSunday Setlist Blog Carnival. :-)
You can find other worshippers' set lists here
http://www.fredmckinnon.com/myblog/2009/05/17/sunday-setlists-43/
and my Planning Center link is here...
http://www.planningcenteronline.com/plans/632678/public
My songs are as follows...
Call to Worship: Forever
Songs of Thankfulness: He Has Made Me Glad / We Bring the Sacrifice of Praise
Offertory: My Tribute (Carol Joe Werner on Piano)
Songs of Praise: Holy, Holy, Holy and Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone)
Special Music: The Longer I Serve Him
Closing: Forever
This Sunday, we celebrated our teachers. We have great teachers here at FBCH - and this day was dedicated to saying thanks and giving God the glory. We again abbreviated the service because we wanted to give time to our body to say thank you to their respective teachers...
So, here's what I thought about the music...
Forever worked great as an opener. The songs of thankfulness worked great... Everything was good (not great because I really missed Gary... our Keyboardist... he really completes our quartet of musicians) and did what it was supposed to do. I really thought the stand out parts - musically - were the specials. Offertory was a fantastic version of "My Tribute" by Carol Joe Werner and Cheryl Lewis did an outstanding job with "The Longer I Serve Him". We were unable to sing "Give Thanks" and I was really looking forward to it... but God had other plans. Besides - this week was not about that song. It was about giving thanks and FBCH did just that. Kudoes to our members for such heart felt "Thanks."
... and I thank you for coming by.
Check out my Confessional its going to be posted here tomorrow!
Keep singing His praises and have a great week.

Sunday Set List 05/10/09
Good Monday Morning! This week, I thought I'd wait before posting.
I wanted to spend all my energies on my wife - she had a great day!
Hope your spouse/you/ your mother had a great Mother's Day also.
Now onto the technical stuff...
I always say "You can find other worshippers' set lists here", but go and check some out.
You can see what the church is singing around the world ( It is world... Isn't it Fred?... not just country...)
Anyway - Here's the link to the Sunday Setlist Blog Carnival.
http://www.fredmckinnon.com/myblog/2009/05/10/sunday-setlists-42/
My songs are as follows...
Call to Worship: Family of God
Because He Lives
I Give You My Heart
Blessed Assurance
I Am Thine, O Lord
Invitation: I Give All to You
Closing: The Family of God
Also, Visit Planningcenteronline.com to see my entire set list (and the order in which it was served)
Planning Center Link
A little rub for planning center - If you use Word or pen and paper to plan your services, go check out www.planningcenteronline.com.... Planning center is really fantastic.
Sunday was Mother's Day and we started service with the same video Fred did at Saint Simons... I'll embed it here so you can see. So Funny...
Anyway our Song service was abbreviated - and I didn't feel bad about that at all. Why you might ask? Because we had 13 babies dedicated during our Sunday Morning service. (That may not be much to some, but for our town of 2200, we couldn't be happier...) Additionally we had 4 more baptisms this week, so we had to plan accordingly. I thought our songs worked well with what we were doing at the time. The music augmented each special event. Because He Lives and I Give You My Heart were both sung after the Parent Child Dedication. Blessed Assurance and I Am Thine, O Lord were sung after the baptisms and I Give All to You wrapped it all up nicely. Today was a nice service. Not overly praise oriented, but it worked well. I was satisfied that we gave our best in worship, and we weren't going through the motions. (That would be a great song - Matthew West you interested?)
Hope your Mother's day and your week of worship was blessed!
Thanks again for coming by. I'm getting my confessional for the week of May 10th (and the 3rd since I can talk again) up sometime today.
Keep singing His praises!

Sunday Set List 05/03/09
OK This was the craziest Sunday in a long time...
But first - I'm going to do what I have to do....
You can find other worshippers' set lists here -
http://www.fredmckinnon.com/myblog/2009/05/03/sunday-setlists-41/
OK So this time I'm making you go to planning center because I am...

Go check it out.... Planning center is cool.
Anyway, so I lost my voice on Saturday morning... and it kept getting worse during the day. I didn't know what to do. I was going to teach "Everlasting God"... which we didn't end up doing (but is on the planning center sheet because I want to keep it there... no reason) So I called Bud Baird and asked him to lead in my stead. Now here is where it gets semi - interesting. I haven't missed since my daughter was born last year (July 9th). So, I decided to play acoustic for him while he lead. I'm sure that was weird... Having me there and not singing. So, because I didn't want to drape the responsibility of teaching on Bud, we dropped "Everlasting God"... but I forgot to inform the Ushers... so no one came down for the Offertory. I remembered it in the middle of "Shout to the Lord" - so I had to vamp instrumentally as the ushers came down. I felt so bad for forgetting. After that, Bud and I didn't know where the other was sitting so we danced around each other for a little bit and got a small laugh - an unintentional laugh. Anyway, the day ended up being a good day - and I asked about 4-5 people to think about leading with me some other weeks.
God took a moment of panic and turned it into something that I think will benefit this church for a long time. God is good
Hope your week was blessed! Thanks again for coming by, and - if I can talk - please check out (and comment on) my "more detailed" worship confessional for the week of 5/03

On to the list!
QUICK SET LIST
Call to Worship: Here I am to Worship
Songs of Praise
Forever (Tomlin)
Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus (Traditional Hymn)
Offertory: In Your Freedom
Songs of Devotion
All The Way My Savior Leads Me (Traditional Hymn)
Victory in Jesus (Traditional Hymn)
Prayer
Special Music: I WIll Rise (Me - singing Chris Tomlin)
Sermon: ...And Now The Rest of the Story
"A Divine Encounter by the Sea"
Invitation: Draw Me Close
Closing: Forever (Chorus)
Here is my Quick Summary - (For a more detailed - and hopefully entertaining - summary, check out my worship confessional.)
Baptisms are becoming regular and I like it! God blessed our service with 3 more baptisms this week. I have to say, that - coupled with one lady who was just WORSHIPPING - made my morning. She was just fantastic. I told her I wanted to be out there with her. We also had another confession of faith and are prepared for 2 more baptisms next week and 2 more on Mother's Day. Today was great. I loved Forever and Here I am to Worship and Victory. They went so well. I just have to do a better job on my transitions between music. We all know that just because they are in the same key doesn't mean they wourk together. Well - I need to do a better job or transitioning the feel. But I'll talk more about that on my confessional.
I did "I WIll Rise" today with a track. I normally don't do specials with a track. I can play my own stuff... or create my own stuff... but I found an instrumental version on iTunes, then I found a video on YouTube and they looked and sounded so good together that I couldn't resist. So I laid the instrumental track over the video in iMovie and then I cross faded in the Angels part from the original recording because I wanted the voices of the angels. Don't know if I was completely legal, but it really went well. I had a hard time getting through the song without crying ( That means I was connection with it :-) ) I love that song - It really isn't congregational but it is powerful. Praise God.
Hope your week was blessed! Thanks again for coming by, and please check out (and comment on) my "more detailed" worship confessional for the week of 4/26.

Here is my Quick Summary - (For a more detailed summary, check out my worship confessional.)
OK - So I was thinking we might have a down week after Easter. But, that wasn't in God's plan. In the middle of the week, Margaret Calhoun came by and said she was ready to sing. When she told me her songs a few weeks ago, I though these will be ok. I can do this. Then she told me her story on Thursday. Wow. I knew that God was going to work something amazing through her. I think my excitement played through the entire service. She did a fantastic job, and we all were more than a little emotional when her song/testimony was finished. Thank you, Margaret, for leading us to the throne of God.
I had a great time with service this week! We had 4 more baptisms! Praise God! And there are 3 more for next week ! Hallelujah! God is moving in spite of storms that swirl around us. He is amazing!I I really feel like our body is owning "Holy is the Lord" and "Open the Eyes of my Heart Lord". I knew they already owned our call to worship and both"Holy,Holy,Holy" and "As The Deer". It all made for a fantastic service. A great follow up to Easter. So, now I pray God will keep us rolling into next week. Check back by and see...
Thanks again for coming by, and please check out (and comment on) my more detailed worship confessional for the week of 4/19 right here on God Powered! Again, may the Joy of the Lord be your Strength!

This week was fantastic! Some weeks you do things you know are going to be more for the body and less for you. However, this week, I was all ready for service. I love singing songs that say Hosanna! That is my favorite word of worship (right now - closely followed buy Maranatha!) I love songs about the Cross. The first section was great. The offertory was great. The middle section about the cross went great. The special music was great! The invitation was the best we've had in weeks!
I am so ready for Easter. We're having (at last count) 5 baptisms next week - two choir specials - a children's choir special and we're having communion! WOW. God is preparing for a special week.
All in all - this was a great week!

Oh, How He Loves You and Me
OK - Two things right off the bat.
(1) Finally, an invitation that fit... and it made a difference. I can't tell you what a lackluster invitation does for the body. I get so mad at myself, but this one worked. It fit what Brother Donny said, and people responded... not in droves mind you, but they responded. I expected it this week, because I felt like I had finally hit the pitch. God blessed it. YES!
(2) It was a special week because Jason Atchley - former Youth and Music Pastor - was back to sing a special (ha ha - no pun intended). It really was nice to have him back. He did a beautiful job on a nice song.
On the songs this week, I was worried when my keyboardist called on Friday night and said,"I don't think anyone is going to know "Still." I don't remember ever doing it." Normally , he is right on about stuff like this, but I was pleasantly surprised that the body remembered it. I felt it was one of the stronger songs along with the invitation and "Oh, How He Loves You and Me".
The body sang the latter song fantastically, and it fit the theme well.
On the flip side - I don't think we'll ever plug into "Shine your Light". I thought I'd try it again, but I don't think it pushes any buttons here. This was my only complaint this week on my planning...
Thanks again for coming by, and if you want a more detailed confessional - Check out my worship confessional for the week of 3/22.

He Knows My Name.
This week was a little more contemporary in worship, and more traditional in specials/offertory. On our recordings, I added a Rode NT4 as an ambient mic and it is really throwing my judgement off. Where I used to feel like no one was singing, I can really hear them during the recording now. It is amazing what one (albeit very nice - OK actually 2 mics because its stereo) ambient mic can do for your recordings. SO needless to say I was confused when I felt more people singing on "Open My Eyes Lord", but the recording said it was on "Holy is the Lord"
Bud Baird does an excellent job anytime he does a special. He is around 70, but the years have only added to his character as a vocalist. I have to say i'd put him anywhere and people would come to listen. I felt the standouts were "Holy is the Lord", "He Knows My Name" (A surprise to me...), and "Open Our Eyes Lord."
Songs that didn't go as well - "I Surrender All." Thematically, this was a stretch. I'm still trying to make a better connection during the invitation time. It is important to me...

Sunday Set List 03/08/09
This is my Fifth "Sunday Set List" for Fred McKinnon'sblog.
This week - I wanted to see if I could be last - because we all know what the bible says about being last and first :-)
I put up my weekly confessional yesterday - Hope you all enjoyed it.
You can find other worshippers' set lists here -
http://www.fredmckinnon.com/myblog/2009/03/01/sunday-setlists-33/
Again - I'm so happy that people are leaving comments. Keep 'em coming.
Met with on of my friends from the blog-o-sphere ( Jim Drake from FBC Snyder) on Thursday.
He was a good friend that day - I needed one.
He gave good advice and introduced me to an excellent restaurant.
God bless you Jim - Thanks.
I think it is amazing that we're only an hour or so away, but it took the internet to help us become friends.
The internet can be an incredible stumbling block or an phenomonal tool for the kingdom.
I pray we claim it daily for His service.
Onto the Sunday Set List....
SET LIST
Intro by pianist and organist (These ladies do a fine job starting our service off right :-) )
Welcome and Call to Worship: Pastor Harbers
Songs of Worship:
How Great is Our God (Chris Tomlin)
There is a Fountain (Hymn)
Nothing but the Blood (Hymn)
These three songs set the mood for the entire service. I felt that each one of them blended the old and the new very well. How Great is an excellent song to start with here. The entire body owns that song. I wasn't sure about the next two, but the body really took to them. All in all - one of the best groupings to open a Sunday Morning.
Offertory
Choir Special "Hallelujah to My King (Paul Baloche/Brenton Brown)
I love this song. I would like to add it to our Sunday Morning lists. It is a very simple but beautiful song - and really added to the service. Great job by our choir.
Songs of Praise:
Lamb of God (Twila Paris)
Before The Throne of God Above (Cook and Bancroft)
Jesus Paid it All (Hymn)
Lamb of God went OK - The body didn't respond to it like they might have. Before the Throne is a song we'll be doing through this entire series. I hope we own it after a couple of weeks. Jesus Paid it All was the right song at the right time. This set was not as strong as the first but it built better. It carried us into the special and the sermon. Better planning this week - I believe...
Prayer: Russ Ponder
Special Music: Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone)
Our MOMs (mothers with preschool kids) group signed to this song as I sang it from piano. I thought the ladies did great. I could have done better ( I did at sound check), but they were great.
Sermon
"WDJD4U (What Does Jesus Do For Us) - He Forgives Our Sins" - Pastor Donny Harbers
Invitation
Take My Life
I guess this is the 3rd week in a row I felt the invitation didn't go where I wanted it to. I really want this song to be emotional and to make a difference. However, I feel like this song could have been a song that extolled the virtues of Jesus and called us to action accordingly. Not a bad invitation - better than the last 2 weeks to be sure - but not what it could have been.

Closing
11. Two Choruses of "Jesus Paid it All" (Hymn)
Again - I usually sing a chorus of the song that I believe ties the service together best, and then we instrumentally play it as people walk out. As I said last week - I felt this song tied the service together very well. It stated what the message needed to say again as the body was walking out. All in all a good choice for closing.
This week - overall - felt better than last week. I felt it was a better offering to God. Better planning and better spirit.
Please come back and check out my worship confessional. Thought it was good this week.
May your week be blessed and may the Joy of the Lord be your Strength!

Sunday Set List 03/01/09
This is my fourth "Sunday Set List" for Fred McKinnon's blog.
This week I'm doing it early, as I am determined not to be #50 or lower.
I'll have my weekly worship confessional up monday as usual... or as should be usual.
You can find other worshippers' set lists here -
http://www.fredmckinnon.com/myblog/2009/03/01/sunday-setlists-32/
Thanks to Elizabeth for commenting on my blog - it helps me know who is out there and reading.
I still encourage you to say something if you can. It can start conversation, and isn't that what blogging is all about?
This weekend is the start of a week of prayer for North American Mission - additionally we've started a prayer guide. Our pastor has asked the church to participate in 40 days of prayer for our city and our country.
SET LIST
Intro by pianist and organist
Welcome and Call to Worship: Pastor Harbers
Songs of Praise:
Forever (Chris Tomlin)
I love singing this song. It went so much better than I had planned. The body started clapping and celebrating - not common for our body, but it is a behavior starting to emerge. I will definitely be leading this song again soon.
Grace Greater than Our Sin (Hymn)
OK so this was a selfish move - I really enjoyed leading this hymn a couple of weeks ago and I wanted to feel that feeling again. When we sang it about a month ago, the body just attached themselves to this song and sang it with all their hearts.
Additionally, I wanted in these first two songs to celebrate what God has done for us. So, I went back to this song to see if what happened a couple of weeks ago was a one time thing. It wasn't. The body really likes this song and sings it from their heart. I thought the morning started out as strong as I could remember
Offertory
Intro by Pastor Harbers.
Robert Moore speaks and presents the Video "God of this City"

Robert Moore speaks.
Robert just came and spoke to us all from his heart. He really wants to see people get to know Jesus. I was really proud of what Robert said and what he is doing. It isn't often that a community leader steps up like this. Praise God it is happening here.
Hymns of Worship:
Blessed Assurance
Heaven Came Down
I Love to Tell the Story
When I was putting this service together, the pastor and I had to re-craft this service a couple of times. It just wasn't fitting into the theme that well. So, finally, I re-did the entire service and I felt good about everything... until we went through these three songs on Sunday Morning. I practice with the instrumentalists about 2 hours before church starts. It takes about 20 min. to run through everything. Everything was going well until we tried to transition from Blessed to Heaven Came Down. It was a tough transition. Not the instrumentalists fault, it was mine in planning. When I played it through by myself on my guitar, it went much easier, but sometimes things change on a Sunday morning.
So, we worked some things out and gave it a go. During service, Blessed Assurance went well but as I feared, I felt we lost energy going into Heaven Came Down. However, I Love to Tell the Story made up for it. It really worked well with Robert Moore's comments and I felt like the spirit really picked up heading into the sermon.
Prayer: Russ Ponder
Sermon
"Live with Urgency - Sowing Together for Harvest" - Pastor Donny Harbers
Invitation
Have Thine Own Way
I again chose a traditional invitation this week, and I was disappointed on how it wrapped things up. I don't feel like it had the spirit or yearning that we needed - maybe it was the song, but it just didn't do it for me this week.

11. Blessed Assurance
I usually sing a chorus of the song that I believe ties the service together best, and then we instrumentally play it as people walk out. This song was that for us this week, and I believe I picked the right song, so we ended on a good note. (No pun intended)
I felt the service started out very strong, but kind of lost steam halfway through. It is important when crafting a blended service that you truly blend it (I believe). You lose something by leaning heavily one way or the other. If we were to do more hymns, some hymn should feel more contemporary. If it is leaning the other way, make sure there are songs the older crownd can still sink their teeth into. Just my opinion - and I don't feel like service went like it could have this week. Maybe switching those two songs would have made a difference... or trying a different song at #2 in that set. Whatever the case, I could have done better.
Again, I'd love for you to come back and check out my worship confessional. It should become more entertaining as I loosen up.
Blessings and may the Joy of the Lord be your Strength!

Sunday Set List 02/22/09
This is my third "Sunday Set List" for Fred McKinnon's blog.
You can find other worshippers' set lists here -
http://www.fredmckinnon.com/myblog/2009/02/22/sunday-setlists-31/
Again, please feel free to comment on my entries as I love to hear what others think.
I missed last week as I was sicker than a dog. However, I still posted my confessional to my site for the 15th. It is coupled with the 22nd. We've got a Mino HD on order so I hope to attach video of the service soon.
This weekend was Big Country Baptist Assembly's week to address our body. Larry Searcy came to talk about the camp we support and to show us his vision for expansion.
This week, I wanted to lead us into a place of reverence and praise - I was unsure the way Brother Larry was going to go, so I planned a service that worked within itself.
With that in mind, here is the Set List for February 22nd.
SET LIST
Intro by pianist and organist
Call to Worship: Breathe
This song is a nice gentle intro. I knew we'd have some down time between this song and the next so I wanted something that would call us into a place of worship... something people could connect with and I know this one would. I started with my acoustic and added keys lightly, with the piano and organ joining on the chorus
Welcome by Brother Russ Ponder
A Word about BCBA - Larry Searcy
Song of Worship: "All Who Are Thirsty"
God is so amazing. Larry talked for about 10 min. He focused on the 'water hole' they are adding to the camp and how big of a deal it is that they need rain to fill this gigantic hole. Then, we went into "All Who Are Thirsty" and how much we need living water from Jesus. We re-invited the spirit in. It was a good time for this song. God is good.
Offertory Prayer
Offertory
"I Exalt Thee" Gary Ford on Keys (Very nice Gary)
Praise and Worship
(Reading) A Road That is Holy
Open the Eyes of My Heart
Holy is the Lord
Holy, Holy, Holy
We started with a responsive reading that went well - not something we normally do, but it augmented where we were going. Then we went right into a medley of the 3 songs listed above. Surprisingly, "Holy is the Lord" is the song the church connected best with. I was expecting Holy, Holy, Holy to be that song, but it wasn't. Not that Holy, Holy, Holy wasn't great. It's just that Holy is the Lord was that much more effective this morning. A great medley of songs - to be sure.
Choir Special
"Lord Most High" Lifeway Anthem
This was a nice piece. A song we could do in service easily. Nice job by the choir. Can't wait to do "Hallelujah, You're my King"
the Baloche/Brenton Brown song in 2 weeks...
Sermon
"Excellence Follows the Path of Determination" - Pastor Donny Harbers
Invitation
Just As I Am
I chose a traditional invitation after Bro. Larry's sermon. It went OK, but I have to say it was the weakest song on the docket.

11. Holy is the Lord
We sang a chorus of this to close...
We are really growing in our worship. Before I arrived - about 2 years ago - My keyboard player said people had stopped singing and participating. Now, God is really blessing our services. People are singing and worshipping. We're still not showing outwardly like we could, but we're getting there. It is a growing process and I have growing to do myself. But, with His blessings and a healthy prayer life there is nothing we can't accomplish. It is hard to keep perspective. I can't take credit because I know it is all about God, but I love what He's doing and I am very thankful to be a part.
Check out my worship confessional.
It's already up and I'd love to hear comments (http://godpowered.blogspot.com/)
Blessings and keep speaking the name of Jesus !

Sunday Set List 02/08/09
This is my second "Sunday Set List" for Fred McKinnon's blog.
You can find other worshippers' set lists here -
http://www.fredmckinnon.com/myblog/2009/02/08/sunday-setlists-29/
Again - I really enjoy reading other people's set lists.
Go to Fred's blog and see what other people are doing...
Right now :-)
Again, please feel free to comment on my entries as I love to hear what others think.
This weekend was back to our blended service.
I was lead to sing a few more hymns than normal, but I felt they fit - and that's where God was leading so who am I to argue?
Brother Donny was speaking on "Excellence Follows the Path of Determination" - so that's where our songs were centered around...
With that in mind, here is the Set List for February 8th.

It is interesting to see how groups respond to change - anyway...
If you want to know more about what I thought, watch my worship confessional.
I talk faster than I type...
It will be posted on my blog ( http://godpowered.blogspot.com/ ) later today.
Blessings and have a great week!

Sunday Set List 02/01/09
This is my first "Sunday Set List" for Fred McKinnon's blog.
You can find other worshippers' set lists here -
http://www.fredmckinnon.com/myblog/2009/02/01/sunday-setlists-28/
I really enjoy reading other people's set lists.
You can find out where their church is going and what they are doing.
Again, please feel free to comment on my entries as I love to hear what others think.
To introduce myself, I lead worship in Hamlin, Texas - a town of about 2200.
At First Baptist, we like a blended service - a good mix of hymns and contemporary.
While we don't sing any original songs, I do write musc and have been for some time. I'll probably post some soon...
Our body likes familiarity, so I look for songs they plug into and own.
I try my best to help them come to the throne of God every Sunday.
We average between 215-220 on a Sunday - some days we're lower...
This weekend was D-Now weekend for our church.
Sunday morning there were around 350 people at FBCH, with most being students and parents of students.
So our normally "blended" service was much more contemporary - and that will be reflected in the song choices.
Our theme for D-Now 2009 was "Freedom."
Our Verse for the weekend was John 8:32. "Then you shall know the truth and the truth shall set you free."
We tried to sing songs that declared our reedom in Christ the entire weekend.
So, after much to-do, here is the Set List for February 1st.
SET LIST
Intro of Hymns on Organ
Welcome by our Youth Pastor : Russ Ponder
Hymns of praise
1. "How Great Thou Art" Charlie Hall Version
2. "Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone) Chris Tomlin
Offertory Prayer
Offertory
3."Come Thou Fount" Kendall Massey - Electric Guitar & Gary Ford - Keys
Praise and Worship
4. "Take it All" Hillsong
5. "All We Need" Charlie Hall
6. "Marvelous Light" Charlie Hall (Obviously our kids like Charlie Hall!)
Skit
7. Lifehouse "Everything" (Recording)
Song of Devotion
8. "In Your Freedom" Hillsong
Sermon
"Freedom" - Assoc. Pastor Russ Ponder
Invitation
9. "Jesus Paid It All" Kristian Stanfill
Announcements
Closing
10. "In Your Freedom" Hillsong
All in all, this was a great service. A good mix for everyone - I believe - if not a louder mix.
If you want to know more about what I thought, watch my worship confessional.
It will be posted on my blog ( http://godpowered.blogspot.com/ ) later today.
